Peak Solar Season is here — maximise your system's performance
Lawns Solar Farm
The Lawns Farm Solar Project is a 23.5MWp ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) development located on Ballam Road in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, UK. Developed by Lightsource bp, the project forms part of the UK’s continued investment in renewable energy infrastructure and low-carbon power generation.
Designed to integrate alongside existing agricultural land use, the project combines renewable energy production with environmental stewardship through a comprehensive Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP), ecological enhancement measures, and extensive environmental assessments.
Once operational, the solar farm is expected to:
Generate approximately 24,600 MWh of renewable electricity annually
Supply enough clean energy to power around 6,800 homes
Reduce carbon emissions by approximately 4,800 tonnes of CO₂e per year
Solarstyle Distributions Ltd (SSD) was engaged to deliver the construction of the Power Station Transformer (PST) foundations together with associated reinforced concrete infrastructure works supporting the project’s electrical balance of plant systems.

The Problem/Challenge
SSD was responsible for delivering the civil and concrete infrastructure package associated with the project’s power station installations and supporting electrical infrastructure.
The scope of works included:
Site preparation
Excavation and ground formation works
Construction of the reinforced concrete Power Station foundations
Installation of associated concrete plinths and equipment bases
Duct interface preparation and service penetrations
Formation works for auxiliary electrical infrastructure
Coordination with mechanical and electrical installation teams
Quality assurance inspections and testing
Management of foundation tolerances and compliance requirements
The PST foundations formed a critical structural element within the project, supporting transformer stations and associated infrastructure required for exporting generated energy to the local grid network.
SSD maintained close communication with site management and associated contractors to coordinate works sequencing and maintain programme continuity.
This included:
Planning excavation and concrete works around live site activities
Managing access and logistics constraints
Coordinating remedial and snagging activities prior to backfilling
Supporting follow-on electrical installation requirements
SSD’s proactive management approach reduced delays and ensured infrastructure readiness for subsequent project phases.
SolarStyle's Solution
Solarstyle implemented a structured, commercially driven delivery strategy focused on control, accountability, and recovery.
Re-sequencing of works – Reorganised installation activities to prioritise available work fronts and maintain productivity despite constrains.
Enhanced coordination and communication protocols – Introduced clear reporting lines to ensure all instructions flowed through the correct management structure to eliminate confusion.
Daily performance tracking and accountability – Implemented strict daily reporting (labour, output, delays) to identify issues in real time and drive resolution
Proactive issue escalation – Rapid escalation of design, access, and material issues to prevent prolonged delays.
Commercial awareness in delivery – Maintained detailed records of delays, disruptions, and inefficiencies to protect contractual position and support claims where required

SSD successfully completed the construction of the Power Station foundations and associated concrete infrastructure works, supporting the project’s electrical installation and energisation activities.
Despite the challenges associated with weather conditions, logistics coordination, and multi-trade interfaces, SSD maintained focus on:
Safety
Quality
Programme delivery
Engineering compliance
Construction coordination
The completed infrastructure provided the structural platform necessary for the installation and commissioning of the project’s transformer and electrical systems.
Results & Impact
SSD’s works contributed to the successful progression of a strategically important renewable energy project within the North West of England.
Key outcomes included:
Successful delivery of five reinforced PST foundations
Completion of associated concrete infrastructure works to specification
Support of programme-critical electrical infrastructure installation
High-quality civil engineering delivery aligned with utility-scale solar standards
Contribution toward the delivery of a 23.5MWp renewable energy asset
Once operational, the Lawns Farm Solar Project will contribute toward the UK’s clean energy transition while maintaining compatibility with local agricultural use and environmental enhancement objectives.
