Cowley House Solar Farm
Cowley House Solar Farm is a major 62MW ground-mounted renewable energy development in Stockton-on-Tees. Once operational, the project will make a significant contribution to the UK’s transition towards a cleaner and more resilient energy system, generating enough renewable electricity to sustainably support approximately 14,000 homes.
The development demonstrates SolarStyle’s capability to deliver complex, utility-scale solar projects within challenging programme environments. Our involvement extended beyond installation, encompassing multidisciplinary coordination, site leadership, logistics management, quality assurance, programme recovery and commercial record-keeping.
SolarStyle’s approach is founded on building long-term, collaborative relationships with clients and project stakeholders. We work as an integrated delivery partner, taking ownership of project outcomes and proactively addressing the operational, technical and commercial challenges that arise throughout construction.

The Problem/Challenge
The Cowley House Solar Farm presented a number of programme-critical and commercially sensitive challenges. These required strong site leadership, structured management controls and continuous coordination across multiple workstreams.
Interface Management
Complex interfaces existed between the Independent Connection Provider, solar installation teams, civil contractors, electrical contractors and other site trades. Without clear coordination, these interfaces had the potential to create access restrictions, sequencing conflicts, aborted works and delays.
Material Availability and Logistics
Delays and inconsistencies in the availability of key materials affected installation continuity. This required the works to be regularly reassessed and rescheduled to ensure that labour and plant remained productive.
Quality Assurance and Sign-Off
Inspection requirements and variations in acceptance standards between stakeholders created quality assurance and sign-off bottlenecks. These issues had the potential to delay work-front releases and prevent subsequent installation activities from progressing.
Programme and Milestone Pressure
A combination of material delays, interface issues, inspection requirements and access constraints placed critical milestones at risk. Active intervention was required to recover lost time and protect the overall delivery programme.
Solar Style's Solution
SolarStyle implemented a structured and commercially focused delivery strategy centred on control, accountability, communication and programme recovery.
Re-Sequencing of Works
Installation activities were reorganised to prioritise available and productive work fronts. This allowed progress to continue where materials, access and approvals were available, reducing the impact of constraints elsewhere on the site.
Enhanced Coordination and Communication
Clear reporting lines and communication protocols were introduced to ensure that instructions, design information and project decisions were issued through the correct management structure. This reduced uncertainty, avoided conflicting instructions and improved accountability between stakeholders.
Daily Performance Management
Strict daily reporting procedures were implemented to record labour levels, completed outputs, material availability, delays, constraints and planned activities. This enabled issues to be identified in real time and provided the management team with the information required to make rapid, evidence-based decisions.
Proactive Issue Escalation
Design queries, access constraints, material shortages and quality concerns were escalated promptly to the appropriate stakeholders. This prevented issues from remaining unresolved and reduced the risk of extended disruption to the programme.
Commercially Aware Delivery
SolarStyle maintained comprehensive records of delays, disruptions, instructed changes, access restrictions and inefficiencies. This protected the contractual position of the delivery team and supported the assessment of variations, extensions of time and additional costs where required.
Flexible Resource Allocation
Labour, supervision and plant resources were regularly reviewed and redeployed to active work fronts. This allowed the project to maintain productivity and respond quickly to changes in site readiness and programme priorities.

The Cowley House Solar Farm was delivered through a structured and closely controlled construction methodology. SolarStyle maintained a strong site leadership presence and coordinated activities across the mechanical, electrical and civil scopes.
The project was delivered through a phased installation approach aligned with site readiness, access, material availability and inspection requirements. Multiple subcontractors and specialist trades were managed across the site, with clear responsibilities established for each workstream.
Material distribution and logistics were coordinated across all site areas to ensure that installation teams received the correct materials at the required work fronts. Detailed planning and daily coordination meetings were used to maintain programme momentum and minimise avoidable downtime.
SolarStyle also enforced robust health, safety, environmental and quality standards in accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, client procedures and project-specific requirements. Regular supervision, inspections, briefings and reporting ensured that works were completed safely and to the required quality standards.
